ISLAMABAD — Pakistan's export sector has started the new fiscal year with growth across key industries, led by the country's large textile industry and continued expansion in technology services.

According to Pakistan Bureau of Statistics data, textile and clothing exports reached $3.379 billion during July-August 2026-27, compared with $3.202 billion during the same period a year earlier. That represents growth of 5.55%.

The increase came despite higher input costs and disruptions affecting shipments to some international markets.

Readymade garments were among the stronger-performing categories, with their export value increasing by 13.59% during the first two months of the fiscal year. Knitwear exports also increased in value, while bedwear recorded a slight decline.

Pakistan's technology services sector is providing another source of export earnings. IT and IT-enabled services generated approximately $811 million during July-August, representing a year-on-year increase of about 17% from the corresponding period last year.

August IT export receipts stood at approximately $394 million, compared with $417 million in July, but remained significantly above the level recorded in August 2025.

The combination of traditional manufacturing exports and digital services is important for Pakistan because export receipts provide foreign-exchange earnings and help support the country's external position.

However, exporters continue to face challenges including energy costs, international demand, logistics disruptions and access to overseas markets.

Maintaining export growth will therefore depend not only on increasing shipment volumes but also on improving productivity, product value and access to new markets.
